How it all started

In 1948 grandma Katharina Weber (nickname “Kath”) started her business with an ice cream parlour in the little village “Ober-Erlenbach” today a part of Bad Homburg.

Now children and women had the chance to buy a daily prepared ice cream.

Another license Katharina Weber gained was the right to press apples. This was very welcome to the masculine inhabitants of Ober-Erlenbach who now could drink “apple wine” which is a typical beverage in the Frankfurt area. Soon Katharina Weber gained the right to offer more food and drink.

So an inn was founded in Ober-Erlenbach, which was managed by Katharina Weber, her daughter, Sabina-Katharina, and her son-in-law, Wolfgang. Further they traded with fuel. Today this kind of business is continued by Katharina’s grandson, Peter Lange.

Inn “Alte Brücke”

Since 1983 the inn, which is named “Alte Brücke”, is managed by Katharina’s granddaughter Helmi Guba and her husband Karlheinz.

Within the years the building itself was enlarged by two extensions, which gave more seats and additional function rooms to the restaurant and further guest rooms to the hotel.

Change of ownership

After 40 years of management, Helmi Guba handed over the restaurant on January 1st, 2023 to Melanie and Jannik Bernard, who – fully aware of the house’s tradition – are delighted to continue running the establishment in the spirit of its founder.

The comfortable restaurant offers good plain cooking as well as seasonal dishes. The guest rooms of the hotel are modern and comfortable.

Still today insiders speak of the “Kath” instead of “Alte Brücke”.
